Karabakh

Naginah Karabakh is a truly evocative and masterful display of Aşiq Salam’s proficiency, love, and profound respect for the old traditions of aşiq art. As the region of Karabakh is divided into three regions, so is this epic exploration. Aşiq has been a friend and musical mentor of mine for a number of years and it is great to hear him absolutely shred in a recorded format. Favorite track: The Crescent.

about

Discover Karabakh... Embark on a musical journey to a time long forgotten, a different cultural setting, when music was set to deliver a message, when wisdom was taught through poetry and parable. Delve deeper to discover the treasure long hidden from prying eyes. Karabakh will tell the tale... and the instruments of old shall guide you through your adventure.

Experiments with time signatures, with the music form itself, to redefine harmony and to find new purpose utilizing a non-rythmic approach to melody. These are Karabakh's main goals, but also to immerse the listener into a trance-like state of deep thought and relaxation, so the listener can fully experience the whole spectrum of emotions and embrace everything Karabakh has to offer.

Relax, close your eyes, take a deep breath. The Adventure Begins...

Karabakh was first presented to the audience and recorded live at the Museum Of Sound, St. Petersburg, Russia to be included as an invaluable addition to it's famous collection of experimental music.

Instruments featured on the album:
The Azerbaijani Saz, the main instrument of the Аşıq
The Caucasian Qamani, the lost fiddle of Armenia
The Pamiri Setor, the mystical lute of the Roof of the World
